Read on to learn more about how MRIGlobal integrates data into a single software platform to provide enhanced capabilities for national defense, human health and wellness, and countless other applications.
MRIGlobal’s systems integration services
In terms of engineering, systems integration is the process of bringing together subcomponents into a larger system. That larger system delivers an end product with enhanced functionality versus any individual piece on its own. We develop communications platforms that display and process data from different subsystem level sensors at one integrated point.
Our systems integration services include:
- Design and integration of electrical, mechanical, and software components
- Integration of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) sensor suites
- Web application development, relational databases, and database design
- And more

Regional experts in systems integration
When you need comprehensive information delivered quickly and with accessible software, you need expert systems integration strategy. MRIGlobal is a not-for-profit research institution with experts who are recognized leaders in their fields. A proven and trusted partner, we provide impactful solutions to our clients by enhancing the functionality of their products. Our systems integration expertise has already been put to work saving and improving human lives.
MRIGlobal is the Software System Integrator for the Nuclear Biological Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (NBCRV) Sensor Suite Upgrade Program. Similar to a tank and outfitted with individual sensors, the vehicle detects chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive threats. Our software products interface with these sensors to provide real-time, highly accurate data. Commanders can take that data and make informed decisions.
The US Military uses the NBCRV to perform route and area reconnaissance, ensuring the path is safe for troops. However, our work can be broadly applied. Our comprehensive software systems can work on a variety of vehicles. We have applied this sensor integration on unmanned aerial and ground vehicles as well as manned vehicles.
Award-winning OASIS software
Lt. Col. Jeffrey Strauss of the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) awarded members of MRIGlobal’s sensor integration software team with certificates of appreciation for their support on the NBCRV sensor suite upgrade program.
Our team worked as the lead software integrator, developing the custom command and control system that interfaces with the NBCRV’s six CBRN sensors. Through MRIGlobal’s OASIS, an open architecture software system, we can incorporate sensors on the NBCRV as needed.
The OASIS graphical user interface (GUI) provides a variety of benefits to users, including:
- Providing a centralized location to observe individual displays for all the CBRN sensors
- Ability to direct the deployment of UAVs
- Providing triangulation of threats using standoff sensors
- And more
Our goal was to provide our partners with enhanced functionality through sensor integration. This enhanced functionality leads to greater troop safety while out in the field.
Impactful system integration delivered on time
Our team of professionals delivered this integrated software in less than four months. We continued to support many field demonstrations of the system at the Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Chemical Biological Center at the Aberdeen Proving Ground.
One system, endless capabilities
The Test Grid at the Dugway Proving Ground required remote control, monitoring, and data acquisition. As the nation’s leading test center for Chemical and Biological Defense, they need unparalleled reliability when it comes to controlling, processing, and evaluating important data. MRIGlobal developed a software system that provides for all of their needs. With the systems and sensor integration our experts performed, the Test Grid can perform operational testing. This includes the production of controlled chemical and biological stimulant clouds with monitoring.
We designed the Individual Protection Ensemble Mannequin System Dugway for realistic testing of personal protective equipment with chemical agents. At the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, we developed the first-of-its-kind High Containment Facility to study traditional and non-traditional chemical warfare agents.
The proper application of collected data allows decision-makers in our armed forces to protect our troops and plan for any type of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive threats.
Ensure efficacy by evaluating chemical sensors
Besides our expertise with integrate sensors, we perform independent testing and evaluation of chemical sensors. We’re one of the few facilities outside of the federal government with the ability to test with neat chemicals. We are also able to work with select biological agents that allow us to provide a realistic environment to test sensor systems and other analytical equipment.
Sensor integration to improve health outcomes
As effective as integrated sensors can be at detecting hostile threats, we have also utilized them to improve human health. MRIGlobal has partnered with the healthcare industry on wearable health biosensors and other medical sensors. There is great potential to improve health outcomes using sensor integration for wearable sensors—and that potential bounds forward in pace with advances in technology.
From improving patient safety with things like improved drug delivery and better air quality, to imbedding environmental sensors in drug packaging, the potential applications for systems integration processes are as far-reaching as the human imagination.
For example, in 2015 MRIGlobal was awarded a three-year, $14.8 million contract to develop an end-to-end next generation sequencing system for clinical diagnosis of infectious diseases. Our role was to lead the systems integration and engineering after analyzing technology and selecting key components.
The Sample-to-Sequence system took clinical samples and created high-quality whole genome sequences of bacteria and viruses. Users could send the single sample to a lab for sequencing to identify uncovered genomes against a database of infectious microorganisms.
This project was a revolutionary approach with a goal of providing a new tool for quick, accurate identification of deadly infectious disease-causing microorganisms. This allowed for rapid, specified treatments, which has ultimately saved lives.
Systems integration for mobile labs
Now more than ever we understand the importance of mobile labs that are built and designed to be the gold standard. MRIGlobal works with the United States Department of Defense to help protect Americans from, and inform them about, the coronavirus.
In 2020, the JPEO-CBRND contracted MRIGlobal to deliver three Athena mobile laboratories. Our swift deployment of these advanced labs equipped with our expert systems integration allowed the US Army to expand its ability to rapidly and safely process and test samples for COVID-19. The state-of-the-art equipment can process in excess of 600 samples every day.
Our expertise with systems integration and sensor software development is a key factor in our Containerized Bio-Containment System (CBCS). This advanced mobile biocontainment system allows patients, critically ill with an infectious disease, to be completely isolated during air travel. The CBCS can be loaded onto a commercial 747 or a military C-17 cargo aircraft.
Long before the rise of COVID-19, various countries relied on our mobile laboratory solutions. From infectious disease control to the monitoring of biological and chemical threats, there’s a mobile lab for it. We customize the design and fully integrate the systems of our mobile labs to best serve the experts who need them. With specialists like Chris Hollars, Ph.D. and his team developing our mobile lab solutions, clients trust MRIGlobal.
