Chemical High Containment
When test requirements demand specialized, high containment medical and non-medical testing laboratories, clients call MRIGlobal.
Since 1961, MRIGlobal has provided subject matter experts, regulatory compliance, and the key physical resources necessary to meet the most demanding testing requirements.
Capabilities
MRIGlobal has the experience and in-depth knowledge to conduct a wide variety of studies and project work. Our services include:
- Medical Countermeasures (MCM) Evaluation against a neat or dilute chemical exposure
- In vitro assay support
- In vivo support
- All routes of exposure in small/large animals
- Animal Rule compliant (21 CFR 314 or 601)
MRIGlobal has several large-scale environmental chambers with capability for the controlled and simultaneous generation, mixing, and mass balancing of chemical threats in the vapor and aerosol phase. One of the chambers is a large particulate/aerosol chamber (15 ft × 16 ft × 9 ft) used with lower toxicity chemical materials, larger-scale disseminations, and other studies. The chamber includes HEPA and carbon filters on the inlet and outlet air.
MRIGlobal’s uniquely designed 2,400 ft2 High Containment Facility was constructed for the safe handling of toxic materials, toxic chemical storage, repackaging, and potent formulation preparation activities. The facility design ensures the lowest feasible risk of exposure to personnel and the environment for staff working with hazardous chemicals (to include multi-kilogram quantities, ~200 kg), test articles, environmental samples, and nanoscale materials. This facility offers a unique and safe containment approach for handling liquid, solid, or mixed-phase chemicals in various sizes up to drum quantities. It is a physically isolated facility and includes a locked containment or barrier area where toxic materials are handled. The barrier area consists of six rooms with a connecting corridor and non-barrier support areas. It is designed as a limited-access facility with electronic badge access; all entrances must be supervised by authorized staff members that serve as a controller from the control room for all operations.
MRIGlobal has 276 linear feet of hood capacity, twice that of the leading competitor. The facility was constructed for the safe handling of toxic materials, toxic chemical storage, repackaging, and potent formulation preparation activities. For nearly 60 years, MRIGlobal has provided unique solutions for public health, warfighter protection, countering weapons of mass destruction, and medical countermeasures.
