We are committed to making health and wellness a priority for all employees at MRIGlobal, so are proud to have been named one of the 2023 Healthiest Employers in Kansas City by the Kansas City Business Journal. Their assessment took into account numerous factors indicative of our support for health and wellness, including culture, leadership support, life-work flexibility, mental health and family benefits, physical health resources, financial well-being, and more. MRIGlobal has been nominated for the award in five of the past six years, being named a Finalist most recently in 2021.
To learn more about the importance of health and wellness at MRIGlobal, we spoke with our Monica De Agostino, Manager of Benefits, Compensation, and HRIS.
What is the most unique benefit offering currently in place? And what statistic best captures the success of that program’s effectiveness in the past 12 months?
One of the most unique benefits we offer is our retirement plan, which was updated on January 1, 2022 to include a 100% match up to 8% of contributions and all the best practices features. This plan has been incredibly successful, and to date we have 98 percent employee participation and an average employee contribution of 9.7 percent towards the retirement plan. Including the employer match, this means our employees are saving on average close to 18 percent towards their retirement. This is significantly higher than the national benchmark and surpasses the top 10 percent of retirement plans. Citing the success of this plan, we were recognized as a 2022 Plan Sponsor of the Year winner in the non-profit category, an award previously won by Yale and Howard Universities.

How are we addressing mental health within the institute?
At MRIGlobal, we prioritize the mental health and well-being of our employees. First, it is about facilitating access. A quick link to our Employee Assistance Program is located on the main page of our Intranet. It is also about partnership to ensure all are receiving our resources. In 2022, we partnered with our Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee to raise awareness and reduce stigma around discussing this important topic. They also hosted a session of mental health Bingo and a book club discussion that highlighted the importance of mental health. This was done to ensure our communities have access to involvement in our mental health initiatives and activities.
What mental health-related benefits do we offer employees?
We offer a range of mental health benefits for our employees and their immediate families, including 24/7 access to no-cost resources and a Mindful advocate to connect to various therapy options. We also reviewed bereavement policies and facilitated access to Employee Assistance information to ensure that our employees have the support necessary in their time of need. As part of our commitment to community outreach, we donated resources to assisted living facilities near our two main offices. These initiatives demonstrate our dedication to supporting the mental health and well-being of our employees.
