Laboratory Renovation Provides Customers New Space

MRIGlobal Expands Infectious Disease Surveillance and Diagnostics

In 2019, the Infectious Diseases and Clinical Diagnostics programs being managed off-site were transitioned to our Kansas City headquarters, moving into the newly renovated Diagnostics Center of Excellence and CLIA laboratory space. This laboratory space was modernized to accommodate our current programs, while providing the opportunity to grow our client base in this growing market area.  Since then, our work in Infectious Disease and Clinical Diagnostics has expanded significantly, with the start of several major programs. In addition, the number of people working on those programs has increased from 10 to nearly 50 scientists. Because our physical laboratory footprint had remained the same, this market growth has challenged us with competing needs laboratory space.

Recently, we renovated what had been unused office space into new laboratory space for the Life Sciences Resource Center. With work having been onboarded in early July, this investment in laboratory space increases our ability to do more work, which will be performed by the Infectious Diseases Surveillance and Diagnostics (IDSD)  and Clinical Diagnostics Testing and Evaluation (CDTE) capability groups. This new laboratory will decrease bottlenecks for various programs and allow us to incorporate more programs simultaneously, maintaining and even growing expectations with our current clients and offering them more space for their projects and instrumentation.

By having another modern and inviting laboratory similar to those in our current Diagnostics Center of Excellence and CLIA laboratory, we will accommodate work for customers that include commercial clients and the US government, while having another space to demonstrate our capabilities to clients. Housing this new lab near the Diagnostics Center for Excellence and CLIA laboratories also allows us to group like sciences together. While new construction for laboratory space can run anywhere from $600-800 per square foot, this lab has been renovated for half that, providing a significant value for our customers.
