Researchers at MRIGlobal have published a set of novel feature-engineering algorithms to identify genomic motifs that are predictive of dangerous properties in RNA viruses, such as human pathogenicity and high transmissibility. Understanding the genetic composition of viruses like SARS-CoV-2 enables us to predict their behavior and strategize accordingly. Combined with our deep learning methods, this work paves the way for a new era of targeted, effective, and safe pharmaceuticals, ultimately bolstering pandemic preparedness.

Through metagenomics, biological cybersecurity, and genetic engineering detection, we address potential biothreats that could impact national security. As we explore the vast genetic diversity found in different environments through metagenomics, we uncover new organisms that could have beneficial applications and identify potentially harmful pathogens. We have also been the lead bioinformatics performer for several Department of Defense microbial forensics initiatives over the past two decades, supporting national security efforts.

Our novel algorithms for automated PCR assay and CRISPR gRNA design are key to accelerating precise biosurveillance for infectious diseases, enabling quick identification of pathogens or genetic variations associated with disease. These tools enhance the speed and accuracy of biosurveillance, enabling early detection, targeted interventions, and ultimately contributing to the establishment of a more precise and efficient public health biosurveillance.
