Solar energy is moving to the next level.
The Solar Technology Acceleration Center (SolarTAC) is an integrated, world-class technical facility where the renewable energy industry can test, validate and demonstrate full-scale technologies under full environmental conditions. The 78-acre site includes facilities for testing photovoltaic and concentrating solar power technologies and includes access to the grid. SolarTAC hosts several commercial partners and federal research, development and demonstration programs.
In 2018, SolarTAC expanded its core facilities with installation of a microgrid test and demonstration facility, GridNXT. This addition facilitates field testing of new microgrid technologies and components (inverters, batteries and control systems).
SolarTAC also hosts Denver Housing Authority’s Solar Garden, a shared solar array with grid-connected subscribers to provide low-cost energy for approximately 500-700 Denver homes. Through these projects and initiatives, Dustin Smith, Executive Director of SolarTAC, was named Colorado Cleantech Industries Association’s 2018 Innovator of the Year.
