Scott M. Smith joined the MRIGlobal Board of Directors in 2018. Mr. Smith retired in 2013 from HNTB Corporation, currently ranked by Engineering News Record in the Top 25 engineering firms in the U.S. with annual sales greater than $1B and 4,000 employees nationwide. Smith joined HNTB in 1985 and served in a wide range of roles including Board member and CEO and President of HNTB Infrastructure. He was responsible for major projects across the U.S. including highways, bridges, rail, transit, and airports.

Earlier in his career, Smith worked in various locations for the Federal Highway Administration and as a research engineer at the Texas Transportation Institute.

Smith served as Chair of the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City and completed a two-year term as a founding co-chair of KC Rising. He co-chairs the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s Big 5 Transportation Initiative. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the University of Missouri-Kansas City and serves on the Advancement Board of the KU Medical Center. Also, Smith chairs the Jazz District Renaissance Corporation in Kansas City.

He has held professional engineering licenses in 10 states and has been active in the Institute of Transportation Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, and the American Road and Transportation Builders Association. Scott was chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Missouri and serves on the University of Kansas School of Engineering Advisory Board, which he also has chaired. He represents Missouri on the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission.

Smith received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas.
