MRIGlobal Supports Hispanic Organization of Toxicologists With Two Travel Awards

MRIGlobal is proud to announce the winners of its Hispanic Society of Toxicology Travel Awards.

As award recipients, Maria Isabel Giraldo, Ph.D., and Eva Vitucci, a Ph.D. student at University of North Carolina, will attend the 57th Annual Society of Toxicology (SOT) Conference in San Antonio, TX, and present their research.

Maria Isabel Giraldo, Ph.D, is recipient of The Special Travel Award on Zika virus. Her presentation is entitled, “Zika Virus hijacks the host ubiquitin system for replication.” She completed her Ph.D. studies in 2017 from University Quindio, Columbia, and is a postdoctoral in the lab of Dr. Ricardo Rajsbaum, Ph.D., Department of Microbiology and Immunology, at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Eva Vitucci, recipient of MRIGlobal’s Graduate Student award, will present, “A Cellular Game of Telephone; Trans-cellular Reprogramming in Responses to Toxic Stimuli.” Her mentor is Shaun D. McCullough, Ph.D., University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill/National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

“MRIGlobal is honored to support the Hispanic Organization of Toxicologists,” said Robert P. Casillas, Ph.D., Vice President of Strategic Global Health Security, MRIGlobal.

Both award recipients will be introduced at a special Hispanic Organization of Toxicologists event during the 14th Annual Hispanic Organization Annual Reception in San Antonio.

Since 2005, The Hispanic Organization of Toxicologists (HOT) has provided Travel Awards to outstanding students and postdoctoral trainees of Hispanic/Latino origin working in the area of toxicology research. The HOT Travel Award consists of monetary funds to help with the associated costs of presenting their research and attending the SOT Annual Meeting.

The Society of Toxicology 57th Annual Meeting and ToxExpo, held March 11-15, 2018, is the world’s largest forum to showcase discoveries and achievements in toxicology research.
