What was your pathway to becoming a scientist?

I’ve been interested in science since I was a child. As with most children, exposure to science is often through some form of medicine. In high school, I had a pretty serious injury to my left forearm and spent a lot of time at the doctor working to resolve this. Despite this somewhat traumatic experience, I enjoyed going to the doctor because I was being exposed to real life science. When I started college I was on the pre-medical track and as many pre-med students, I volunteered and joined a research lab. At the hospital, I volunteered in the clinical research department and at UCF in a biochemistry laboratory. After about a year of research, I decided that I wanted to obtain my Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences.

What excites you about working at MRIGlobal?

Working on a variety of challenging programs that have an impact. Many programs we support in the Infectious Disease, Surveillance and Diagnostics group enable device and/or diagnostics manufacturers to obtain FDA clearance for infectious disease products. It is exciting to be a part of the products development and success.
