Using on-site measurements to provide conditions mapping

MRIGlobal uses an array of environmental sensors to rapidly analyze and visualize on-site environmental conditions. MRIGlobal’s rapidly-deployed field measurement system provides the necessary information to guide data-based decisions quickly and with confidence. Rapid data assessment and visualization (contour/vector/streamline plots and animations) effectively help communicate issues and solutions to clients, site and environmental mangers, or environmental regulators.

An array of environmental sensors is setup on-site and the information is processed to provide visual maps. This vector plot of the airflow illustrates airflow patterns and can be used to determine local high speed areas.



Site-Specific Analysis

The atmospheric fate and transport of fugitive dust depends on the turbulent wind conditions over an industrial site. Using the fluctuating wind data estimates of turbulence intensity, which impact erosion and wind turbine placement, can be rapidly assessed.

MRIGlobal uses the sensor data to estimate turbulence intensity across the site. This impacts wind turbine placement, erosion potentials, fugitive dust fate and transport, and control efficiencies of existing dust control methods.

Understanding wind power density is critical for the most effective wind turbine placement at a particular site. Maps such as this provide crucial information when selecting an optimal turbine location.

 

Computational Fluid Dynamics

MRIGlobal has developed CFD modeling protocols specifically to predict the effects of atmospheric wind conditions at industrial sites. Experimental data, when used in conjunction with state-of-the-art modeling, increases model accuracy, reliability, and confidence through measured boundary conditions and experimental validation.

When used in conjunction with CFD, on-site data provides more accurate boundary conditions as well as a way to validate and bound CFD model accuracy.
