Our Business

Our headquarters are in Kansas City, and we have regional offices in Virginia, Maryland, and Florida. See our locations. In addition to our own labs, we operate research facilities for the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense.

We are one of two entities in the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, LLC, which manages and operates the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, CO, for the Department of Energy. We've managed NREL since its beginning in 1977.

Founded in 1944, our company has built a reputation for innovation, technical excellence, and problem solving.

Born out of the desire to bolster the post-war Midwestern economy, our company was established with a mission to supply needed research for industry and to encourage programs using regional resources.

Now we are an internationally acclaimed center for applied research and technology development. Our accomplishments range from pioneering efforts in environmental and cancer research to cutting-edge work in drug development and high-precision automation technology.
