In 1500 B.C. Egypt, the study of eight tumors was recorded on papyrus, creating the world’s first documented case of cancer. However, it wasn’t until the 20th century that the greatest progression in cancer research began.

Today, research has greatly increased the survival rate for many cancers, and the fight against cancer continues. MRIGlobal has been an important participant in this effort, providing long-term services to both the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences involving research on carcinogenic chemicals.

MRIGlobal’s chemistry support services for toxicology studies as part of the National Toxicology Program (NTP) run by the NIEHS is one example. “These evaluations help safeguard public health by examining substances used in everyday items to determine at what level of exposure they become hazardous to humans,” said Joe Algaier, Ph.D.  Algaier is the Principal Investigator on MRIGlobal’s current NTP contract.

MRIGlobal has 38 years experience with NTP providing advanced analytical chemistry services. During this time, MRIGlobal has issued more than 5,000 technical reports on almost 2,000 different study chemicals and processed almost 3,000 High Throughput Screening chemicals. Many of these studies involved cancer-causing compounds.
